Set in 1,200 square meters of garden Villa la Cigale enjoys a sunny south-west facing aspect.
Off the garden path the front steps lead up to a patio (9 m2) and the front door which opens onto a corridor that runs the length of the Villa’s raised ground floor. When we refurbished it our aim was to combine traditional features of the 1930 Villa with a clean simple decor to achieve the “beach” look we love.
The rooms are laid out as follows in a clockwise direction from the front door :
The first room to the left is a light airy living room (16 m2). Traditional French doors open onto the patio. It’s great space to relax at any time.
The next room on the left is the kitchen (10 m2) fully fitted with dishwasher, gas/electric hob, electric cooker, fridge/freezer, microwave, toaster, preparation table, and all the cooking utensils / crockery you would expect in a well-equipped holiday home.
Next to the kitchen is a staircase leading down the lower ground floor and the “just back from the beach” shower room. There is also direct access into the garage where the washing machine is located.
The last room on the left of the Villa is a children’s bedroom with two sets of bunk beds (sleeps 4) and plenty of drawer space (no wardrobe). The brightly coloured room overlooks the rear garden terrace and benefits from its location at the rear of the villa. Being quiet and cool in the evenings it is ideal for getting children to sleep! There is a shower room with washbasin and bidet, and a W.C. in the adjoining room.
A baby changing table, bath and a bed safety rail for a toddler are all available.
Moving to the rear right hand side of the Villa is the cool airy “blue” bedroom (16 m2). It overlooks the garden to the south-east so enjoys the morning & early afternoon sun. It features a double bed, generous hanging/drawer space and is en-suite with a shower W.C. bidet & washbasin.
The dining room is next (14 m2) with seating for ten guests.
The room is south facing and opens onto a covered patio (6 m2). Another great spot to relax and enjoy an early morning coffee.
The second double bedroom (16 m2) – the “rose” room – overlooks the garden to the south-west and is again a bright and airy room. It features a double bed, generous hanging/drawer space and is en-suite with a bath, bidet & basin. (No WC).
When refurbishing Villa la Cigale we tried to retain as many of the original features as possible particularly the doors, windows, fittings and shutters. Without doubt some internal doors no longer fit squarely into their frames and window shutters require a little more manual effort to open & close than modern electric shutters would. We hope that, like us, you find this only adds to the character of the villa.
