Here is a little bit of history on how we came to own Villa la Cigale …..

Eric (Crouillere-Chavot) was born in the clinic in Arcachon. His family still live locally. Mother in Cazaux, older brother in La Teste,  younger brother in Bordeaux and Auntie in La Hume. Every summers day Eric would cycle from Cazaux to the “Atlantic beaches”. He loved the Dune, the beaches, the smell of the pine trees, the amazing light and colours of Nature. His first job was as a chef in Arcachon before he moved to the UK where he worked with and for Raymond Blanc, Pierre Koffman, the Roux brothers and Marco Pierre White. In 1999 Eric became head chef of the Capital Restaurant in Knightsbridge London where he famously held two Michelin stars for 10 years.

I was born and raised in Birmingham, graduated from Surrey University with a degree in Hotel Management, and worked in various hotels in London before joining the Capital Hotel in 1998 as the Hotel Manager. Voila!… in the hotel lobby our paths first crossed.

Roll forward to August 2005 and I had moved on from the Capital Hotel, Eric’s divorce had been finalised, and he took me to Cazaux to meet The Family. The first evening we walked to the top of the Dune du Pyla to watch the sun setting… it was breathtakingly beautiful. Later Eric confided that if I loved the Dune as much as he did then he knew I was “the one” (Needless to say I did, and we are now married thanks to that huge pile of sand ! ).

During that week we went to Le Moulleau for an ice cream and casually looking in estate agent windows we spied details on Villa la Cigale. The next morning we met the agent at the Villa which was tired and dated but so charming and by lunch time we had paid the deposit !

Five months later Eric’s brothers with their wives and parents and my two sisters, helped us start to redecorate stripping wall-paper and sanding the woodwork. We slept in one room on camp beds lined up like in a school dormitory and dined exclusively on baked potatoes with my extensive range of toppings !

It was exhausting but great fun !

We feel very fortunate to own a Villa in the beautiful Arcachon Bassin and hope to have the opportunity to welcome you to enjoy your holiday here.
